Q1 Recap
Well my least creative friends on Instagram have informed me that "Q1 2025" has come and gone. And because I keep time via the Corporate America Calendar ONLY, I thought it'd be good to do a little Q1 recap here. We'll take a look at what I accomplished and didn't accomplish in the first 3 months of 2025, and hope that it makes us feel good and not bad. Let's dive right in team.
Accomplishments:
Bought a house! --> After several months of figuring it out and setback after setback, finally in January we closed on the house and I moved in. In hindsight, maybe all the setbacks in the buying process should have been a warning sign to all the troubles to come.... but what're ya gonna do?
Got ONE of the apartments ready and rented! To Catherine! Hers was the easy one-- mostly it needed a deep clean, and lots of paint. Oh, and there was a huge hole in the wall for some reason that we patched with drywall. Oh and within the first week of buying, the kitchen sink was leaking right into the foyer below, but with one call to a plumber, one visit from Hannah, a FaceTime from my mom, and help from Corbin, we fixed it! And it wasn't even that hard or that expensive!
New kitchen! I actually still sort of hate it, buuuuuut I hate it so much less than before!
Evolution of a Bedroom.
Made soooo many phone calls! I've called roofers and plumbers and pest control guys and contractors and locksmiths and cleaners and utility companies and wifi companies and demolition companies. I've made late night calls to most of my friends, far and wide, when I've been afraid of raccoons, and so many emergency calls to my mom and sister asking what the heck to do now.
Even though it's not done or rented yet, I have made a LOT of progress on the other apartment, especially considering I didn't think it hardly even needed any work. I've painted the floors, scraped paint and caulk (for some reason???) out of window frames, and done almost a full bathroom remodel (AGAIN thank you Corbin). (I never would've guessed by looking that there were three layers of effed up floors, or that if you hammer into the wall, the whole thing will start to move back and forth.) If I can finally just finish the last little details it will be ready to rock and roll! If you know anyone who wants to rent a cute little 1 bedroom with a slightly fucked up bathroom, PLEASE reach out!
Big floor changes in second apartment! (And I wish I remembered to take all my before and afters from the same perspective.....oh well!)
Next week, the new roof and gutters get put on, and the shed demo isn't supposed to be far behind. I'm getting quotes to get my tiny bedroom fixed, and need to call someone to both fix my washing machine, and move it to the basement (which luckily no one sleeps under). I've called it quits with my raccoon guy, because after 2 months we caught one that got away, and caught two more on camera using the trap as a step stool.
Raccoon sightings.
For Q2, I want to focus on getting the second apartment rented, and getting a job, so I have money to continue to furnish my guest room, attic, deck, etc., and can continue to fix all of the things that are still broken, or will inevitably be broken.
